How to See if Your Accommodation Passes the Fitness Test

If fitness plays an important part of your life, one of the first things you need to research when booking your next trip, is if your accommodation passes the fitness test.

Will you have access to a gym? Is there a kitchen for you to prepare snacks after a hard workout? Is the area safe enough that you can run outside?

Often, we fail to consider our accommodation when thinking about staying fit as we travel. This is just a place to sleep, after all.

But what your accommodation offers can make it much easier to keep on top of your usual exercise regime. Sure if you are near the ocean you can get in some beach workouts but if not, then you need to consider other options.

While it’s important to step outside of your comfort zone when away, it would be a mistake to leave your routine too far behind. It would be best for your fitness regime to pick accommodation that passes the fitness test.

With that in mind, we’re going to look at the three primary things your accommodation needs to keep you on your fitness path while traveling.

Will You Have Access to a Gym?

Access to a gym is crucial, especially in countries where you’re eating a lot of fatty foods. After all, nothing’s better for keeping your figure than regular sweat sessions.

If you’re visiting Rome, Italy, for instance, you need to look out for apartments within walking distance of local gyms. The food is amazing, but all that pasta and cheese will catch up to you eventually!

Countries such as China and Thailand can pose a threat to your waistline because they serve a lot of food fried in oil. And do you want to be thinking about how to lose weight while on vacation?

In this instance, make sure to either look out for a gym in the area where you are staying or book into a hotel with a gym on the premises.

To ensure this, take your time finding out how to book a hotel in Hong Kong central or where to workout in Thailand before you pick your accommodation.

Will you be able to cook or Prepare Meals?

If you need to have meals prepared in advance for after your workouts, we suggest booking an Airbnb or an extended-stay hotel through Booking.com where you will have access to a fridge or small kitchen. That way, there’s less temptation to eat out regularly.

Apartment rentals are best, though some hotels do at least offer a microwave. These facilities are important because they allow you to prepare snacks before heading out each day. And, these are sure to serve you better than food bought for convenience.

Will the Area Be Safe to Walk or Run Outside?

Lastly, you need to pick an accommodation in an area that is considered safe.  If keeping fit is a priority, you need to know you can head out for a walk or run without worry.

You also want to make sure that you wear the appropriate clothing when running outside, like in Morocco for example.

Look at the reviews on Airbnb and Booking.com to see if other guests mention anything about the area’s safety. You want to make sure you can still get outside for those runs or walks and feel safe.

After all, those sunset runs along the beach are the best part of fitness on vacation.
