Texas is the largest state on mainland USA (with Alaska taking the top spot). But as it is so large, you can just imagine how much there is to see and do there, with history and culture to explore, as well as some amazing southern food. The question is, with a state so large, where do you visit first?

Texas has several large cities to choose from, as well as spots along the coast and cities bordering Mexico, Albuquerque, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. But one of the cities, a little further inland that needs to be added to your list, is San Antonio.

It is a sultry, sunny, and stunning place to visit, with so much to offer locals and tourists alike. With that in mind, here are some of the top things to do here, and why it is worth a trip.

Tour the Alamo

There is plenty of history to enjoy, including the Alamo, which is most celebrated for a battle there in 1836 that started Texas as we know it. But in fact, the world-famous site can trace its roots way back to 1718 when it was founded as a Spanish mission.

As well as exploring the area, some enactments go on regularly, so you can get a feel for all things San Antonio.

River Walk in San Antonio

One of San Antonio’s most popular attractions is the Riverwalk, which as you might imagine, is set on the river. It is the best place to eat and drink with plenty of bars and restaurants scattered along the route.

If you fancy exploring it all, then you’ll find miles and miles to explore, with some areas pretty good for biking, as well as kayaking in the river.

Family Attractions

As you would expect with most cities, there are plenty of things that cater to families. But San Antonio has an abundance that there really will be something for everyone. You could look for a hotel near SeaWorld San Antonio, Texas, as well as explore the Botanical Garden, play at Six Flags, visit San Antonio Zoo, Ripley’s Museum, and many, many more.

For something a little different you could even tour the Natural Bridge Caverns or go to the Museum of Art.

Live Music Scene in San Antonio

Texas is known for some good music and knowing how to party. And often the city of Austin gets the reputation for being the best place for live music. But San Antonio has been a music town for much longer than Austin, with its heritage of soul, blues, and country.

There are plenty of places to experience the live music scene in San Antonio, including the Riverwalk area. But the Cowboys Dancehall and Jazz XT located in the Pearl are good spots to check out.
