At the bottom of America’s East Coast, the state of Florida stands out in a quite literal sense, earning the nickname of “the Panhandle” for its shape and prominence. The state also stands out on its own as a state within the USA for many other reasons.

Its climate, which borders on the tropical, makes it a highly popular destination for holidaymakers. In addition, the cities that find their home here have something for everyone; whether you’re a sports buff, a beach bum, a space cadet, or an excited child, you’ll find your heaven in Florida.

Miami in Fabulous Florida

Our first stop is in perhaps the most famous of Florida’s many cities, the iconic Miami. Immortalized in song, on TV, and in the movies, it’s a sweltering coastal metropolis that offers plenty of beach life and some of the best cuisine anywhere in the state.

If you’re a fan of Cuban cooking, Miami will be a dream destination for you; if you’re not (yet), you will be by the time you leave. While here, check out whether there’s a chance to take in a sporting contest.

The local NFL team, the Dolphins, is on the up, while the NBA franchise the Heat is always in contention for honors. The soccer team Inter Miami, meanwhile, is owned by no less a luminary than David Beckham.

Fort Myers and Sanibel

If you want to spend more time on the beach and chilling out, then a trip northwest to Fort Myers will deliver everything you’re looking for. Some of the state’s finest white sand beaches are available here, with remarkable sunsets a feature of the geographical location.

Trips to nearby Sanibel in fabulous Florida are worth checking out. It is an unspoiled paradise, where no fast-food chain restaurants can be built by law, keeping a small-town serenity. You can then embark on a boat tour of the area which allows you to check out the local wildlife and enjoy the aforementioned sunsets.

Orlando in Fabulous Florida

Family holidays quite simply don’t get much better than a stop in Orlando, which just might be the theme park capital of the world. Not only is the city home to the iconic Disney World, but you’ll also find Universal Studios and a massive SeaWorld.

If you are looking for family fun, you’ll find LEGOLand here, where some extremely impressive renditions of cultural and historical figures are built out of those plastic bricks. It’s a fantastic place to bring imagination to life and will bring out the kid in even the most jaded grown-up.

Cape Canaveral is known above all for one thing, but that thing makes it well worth the trip east from Orlando. From here, in 1969, the famed Apollo 11 spacecraft lifted off on July 16th. Four days later came the words everyone was waiting for as Mission Commander Neil Armstrong radioed to Mission Control: “The Eagle has landed”.

Armstrong and Lunar Module specialist Buzz Aldrin became the first two men to walk on the Moon. And the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral remains the hub of the nation’s space program to this day.
