1. Treasure Beach, Jamaica
While there are countless Caribbean beaches we could have chosen, Treasure Beach in Jamaica gives you a taste of island life in all its laid-back glory.
This six-mile-long stretch of coastline has four coves which are open to the public, with some peaceful little fishing villages and great food to be enjoyed. It also has a community of artists and writers, so in between sunning yourself and snorkeling, there’s a rich cultural scene to entertain you.
2. Bondi Beach, Australia
No list of the top five beach destinations would be complete without a mention of Bondi Beach, just east of Sydney. It pulls in crowds from around the world and staying close by can be perfect if you want to explore one of Australia’s most exciting cities.
Wildly popular with water sports enthusiasts and those more intent on soaking up some rays or having a beachside barbecue, Bondi Beach is one of the best beach destinations in the world.
Make sure you’re covered for any watersports if you visit, however, particularly if you fancy trying your hand at surfing or jet-skiing!
3. Playa Tortugas, Mexico
For those who didn’t pay attention during Spanish lessons, the ‘tortugas’ in the name are the turtles you’ll be able to spot in the crystal clear waters of this exquisite Mexican beach.
Located close to the vibrant Cancun, the waters here are less choppy than surrounding beaches and are ideal for a refreshing dip when the South American heat gets too much. This beach made it into Culture Trip’s top five, although they do warn it can become crowded.
4. Palm Beach, Florida
If you like a beach holiday with a touch of glitz and glamour, then Palm Beach in sunny Florida, USA could be for you. With historic landmarks and some incredible mansions close by, this does feel like a fairytale destination.
When you’re not reclining on your sun-lounger, there’s the world-famous Worth Avenue close by, one of the most incredible shopping experiences you could hope for.
There are also plenty of chic restaurants and bars, the ideal place to unwind after a hard day’s shopping and maybe enjoy a bit of celebrity spotting.
5. Honokalani Beach, Hawaii
For a beach with a difference, look no further than Honokalani Beach in Wai’anapanapa State Park on the island of Maui. With its black ‘sand’ made up of little lava pebbles and sea caves to explore, you can only begin to imagine the photographs you could put on Instagram after a relaxing holiday here.
It even made it to the number one slot on Condé Nast’s list of top beaches a couple of years ago, and more than deserves a place in our top five.
